top 5 greek myths you want to see retold (like song of achilles/the penelopiad)

hellmouths answered:

i have never actually read the penelopiad but it’s a top priority book on my bookshelf for sure!

  • ariadne who is my favorite, favorite female in all of greek mythology and i cannot stress how badly i want her tale to be told because i am so stupidly in love with her story. she walked through the labyrinth, where men and women were led to be slaughtered like pigs, with only a string and her wits. she killed her brother and destroyed her kingdom all in the name of love because she desperately wanted to be free. she’s morally corrupt, ambiguously vague, and she’s both the antagonist and protagonist of her tale because she believes that she’s justified in her actions. i want to see ariadne with her hands red with blood and ariadne being resurrected by the god of madness who was so taken with her that he couldn’t help but make her a goddess
  • i feel like this already exists but a tale from medusa’s pov
  • eva green as medea, starting from when she sold her soul for jason to how she took back her heart by murdering her children for revenge
  • there’s so many modern retellings but i’m always a sucker for persephone/hades when she bite into the pomegranate on her own free will because it’s better to rule in the underworld than walk as a follower on earth
  • apollo and artemis because i haven’t actually seen much about them and i’m all about codependent, powerful siblings

In all seriousness, I always imagined that Remus’ lycanthropy brought out the best in the other Marauders and showed their softer sides. Imagine James and Sirius sneaking down to the library at night to read a stack of books about werewolves and staying up all night. Imagine…

ok yeah but slytherin muggleborns buying a shitload of those really cheap ballpoint pens beore every term and selling them to pureblood/halfblood students for like 10 sickles a pen and all these kids are just mystified by the fact that they dont have to constantly dip quills when they write essays

slytherin muggleborns

Those fuckers exist and you know it

sirius likes to think he’s really hardcore and punk rock but really he gets very distraught over papercuts and doesn’t like to sleep without saying goodnight to all of his friends before bed and he can’t function without at least 10 hugs a day and he gets really mopey when he feels left out and if he had his way all of his sandwiches would have the crusts cut off

talk to me about unkind hufflepuffs; the ones who are so goddamn loyal that they’ll fuck your shit up. talk to me about hufflepuffs re-igniting s.p.e.w. and turning it into an agro-human (and nonhuman) rights group. they take the jokes about spew and spit in the faces of the pureblood gryffindors that say that’s just the way things are; they’re the ones that spend weeks chained outside the headmaster’s office, demanding wages for the kitchen houselves and for a centaurs’ caucus to help make the rules about students in the forest (including when they do care of magical creatures in the forest).

talk to me about hufflepuffs who see injustice and unkindness and want to re-shape the world with their own hands.

Regulus Black, the loyal son. Regulus Black, the Slytherin. Regulus Black, with grades just good enough to please his mother.

Regulus Black, who keeps his hair neat and is polite at family gatherings. Regulus Black, who does not pick fights, who does not ride a motorcycle, who does not hang out with werewolves or get disowned.

Regulus Black, who Phineas Nigellus keeps an eye on from the portraits on the walls. Regulus Black, who occasionally hears whispers of kindness from random frames, and catches winks and thumbs-ups from oil-painted old men and women as he walks to class.

Regulus Black, who sits through painfully long and dull Slug Club dinners, and writes thank you notes, and attends quidditch matches in the Slytherin bleachers with the right kind of kids.

Regulus Black, who graduates with a freshly healed tattoo on his forearm. Regulus Black, whose brother will not speak to him. Regulus Black, who makes his family proud.

Regulus Black, who lies to his mother when he says he will be staying with friends, who tells her he will take care of himself, with a knot in his stomach and an old necklace in his pocket.

Regulus Black, wandering the British coastline, only Kreacher for company. Regulus Black, angry, disillusioned, miserable. Regulus Black, finally doing something on his own. Regulus Black, disobeying everything he’d ever quietly and mild-manneredly adhered to.

Regulus Black, smearing his blood on the stone door, seeing it, with no reference for it except childhood scraped knees and bloody noses and cracked lips in dry weather. Regulus Black feeling important.Regulus Black, an individual.

Regulus Black taking the boat with Kreacher across the glassy water.

Regulus Black, cold, scared, drinking from the basin. Regulus Black, weakening, writing on a scrap of parchment, sending Kreacher home.

Regulus Black, fighting the undead.

Regulus Black, dead at nineteen.

Regulus Arcturus Black, the unsung hero of the House of Black, never burnt from the family tapestry, never again spoken of by his brother, never buried, never honored. Never remembered as anyone but a good pureblood boy who kept his head down and disappeared.

But he knew.

And Harry knew.

And Kreacher knew.

And maybe that was enough.

i’m so interested in the black sisters, these three young aristocratic girls growing up in the heart of an elite society and, for the first few years, life is so easy because they are blacks and the entire world is theirs for the taking

and then they get to hogwarts and andromeda meets ted and everything just splinters and ‘dromeda and bella, who look so similar and were once swapping places to taunt the house staff, are now at each other’s throats, wands drawn as both girls duel around the empty black mansion, tapestries burning in their wake. you can see the whole wizarding war played out across the relationship of these sisters from the death eaters with bellatrix to the order with andromeda and narcissa in the middle, not as far gone as bella but definitely not with andromeda

god narcissa, the youngest sister, who watched the two eldest spearhead such opposing sides, who later chooses her son and family over the entire war i’m just :( :( :(

do you know what i want? i want neville longbottom as a fierce crusader for educational reform in the magical world

i want neville longbottom, the boy who was traumatized by the school he loved, to become an educator and heal by fixing the fucked up magical education system, by making hogwarts safe for every scared little kid, by making it unacceptable for the headmaster to use the school as a center of political power or for teachers to terrorize their students with no threat of reprimand or for a school that calls itself the highest center of magical learning in britain to churn out students who can do basic spellwork but who are unaware of how their own world even works

i want the generation who had to face down voldemort as little more than children to make hogwarts the school they deserved to attend
